Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter Peter Silk, who is an academic and Anna Silk, who's an actor, director and producer. She is also a playwright. Anna is awed by her mother's job as a play director and also attending rehearsals. Silk was a prominent character in numerous commercials while she was an infant. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in Arts from St. Thomas University. Theatre St. Thomas produced at least two early productions, Seven Menus, and The Kitchen. Silk moved to Toronto for further development of her acting profession in November 1999. She then, over the next decade, she moved into Los Angeles, California. Seth Cooperman was her future spouse when she first began to meet him in 2007 in an actor's workshop in Los Angeles. They were married in a civil ceremony on December 10th, 2009 after they became engaged.
